Object description :

"Watercolor By Willem Van Leen (1753-1825) Flowers, Fruits And Ancient Ruins."
Large watercolor attributed to Willem Van Leen * representing fruit including plums and grapes surrounded by roses and leaves of vines, all placed on a stone entablature following the antique decor of the background.
A great painter of flowers, the painter has put drops of water on the leaves and fruits which reinforces the freshness of the subject.
* Willem Van Leen (1753-1825) is a Dutch flower painter born in Dordrecht and died in Delftshaven. A pupil of Jan Arends, Dirk, Kuypers and Jorias Ponse, he went to Paris in 1793, returned there in 1808, and knew M. Sauvage there. The Boymans Museum in Rotterdam retains a work by him and is very present in major European and world collections.
The watercolor itself measures 26.7 x 34.6 cm.
It is glued in the upper part to a thicker paper painted and carrying the Van Leen cartridge.
Presented in its old frame of Louis XVI style bearing the label of the Parisian frame.
