"George Oberteuffer (1878-1940) "
Rare oil / canvas board by George Oberteuffer depicting an animated scene along the river, with fisherman and canoe. There seems to be a tiny trace of signature on the lower left, although this work is authenticated by the niece of the painter's wife on the back and I also guarantee the authenticity of this painting to 200 %. Certificate and invoice provided. It is therefore a superb impressionist composition by this excellent American painter, as usual the touch is neat and powerful and the palette very typical to the artist; close to artist as Montézin, Truchet .... George Oberteuffer was born in Philadelphia in 1878, he was a pupil of Chase and Anshutz. Member of the Salon d'Automne and the Salon des Indépendants. He earned a gold medal in the state of Wisconsin in 1922. Although he painted a lot in the United States, especially in Provincetown, he made many trips to France, in Paris of course, but also in Provence in the Sarthe, at Moret sur Loing, etc. A view of Paris in winter was even bought by the French government; the painting gallery of Columbus in Ohio retains of it "The small beach". Its coast is today very high and its works, rather rare on the market reach very good results in the United States as in France or in England. The canvas board that I propose is in very good condition, delivered in a gilded old frame.
