Georges Rohner was born in 1913 in Paris. His uncle Georges Stugocki, a drawing teacher, gives him an early taste in art and develops his passion. In 1929, he left high school to attend the "galleries" of the School of Fine Arts in Paris where he will be received. A year later, he will be admitted as a pupil to the workshop Lucien Simon. Under the impetus of the critic Henri Hérault, he joined forces with Robert Humblot, Jannot, Lasne, the Canadian Alfred Pellant, Pierre Tal-Coat and Raymond Moisset to found the "Forces nouvelles" movement, which advocates a return to drawing, the return of the conscientious profession of tradition in a fervent contact with nature. In 1932, his desire for independence led him to leave the Beaux-Arts and rent a studio with Robert Humblot. He travels to Spain and the Netherlands, where he discovers the city of Amsterdam. During his military service in Guadeloupe, he decorated the town hall of Basse-Terre. In 1940 he was taken prisoner and interned in Trier. He decorates the stalag chapel which he will keep Christ to prisoners. In 1959, he was appointed lecturer at the School of Fine Arts and decorated the Legion of Honor. He continued his career as a professor of drawing and colors at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1962. In 1963 he was awarded the Order of Arts and Letters. In 1968, Rohner was elected to the Academy of Fine Arts where he held the chair of Ingres. Philippe Garel succeeded him in 2015. In 1987, a retrospective was organized at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Quimper. Georges Rohner died on November 3, 2000 in Lannion. Various artists, writers, and institutions paid tribute to his work and his talent by publishing books, short films, paintings and drawings. Over the course of his career, Rohner exhibited his works throughout the world in a hundred exhibitions organized by galleries, museums, and exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, the Salon des Indépendants, the Paris Gallery, the Musée d'Art modern art of the city of Paris, Wildenstein & Co gallery in New York, the museum of fine arts of Orleans, Espace Cardin in Paris, the Louvre museum.
