pendulum gilded bronze stamping of raingo brother movement on silk thread exceptional quality perfect condition free delivery Born in Mons in Belgium July 2, 1775, Zacharie Joseph Raingo is the son of Nicolas-Joseph, watchmaker, and Marie-Magdelaine Decroly. He lives in Tournai from 1795 to 1807 then develops, from 1810, his activity in Ghent before moving to Paris rue de Cléry in 1813. During this first period, following certainly the example of Antide Janvier, he realizes his first planetary clocks, his specialty. Also called astronomical clocks, they are mounted with a rotation mechanism of the spheres to show the proportions, positions and trajectories of the celestial bodies. He filed in 1810 a patent for a "moving sphere clock" on which he published a pamphlet in 1823. As early as 1823, Zacharie Raingo was appointed Watcher-Mechanic of SAA Monseigneur the Duke of Chartres (future King Louis-Philippe) and the next year Clockmaker-Mechanic, Crown Guard. The King of England George IV acquires a planetary in 1824 for 300 Guineas which is now at Windsor Castle. The house Raingo Frères, which associated four of the sons of Zacharie, was founded in 1823 and settled around 1830 at 8 rue de Touraine. They were Adolphe Hubert Joseph (Tournai 1796 - Paris 1839), Charles François Victor (Tournai 1801- Paris 1884), Denis Lucien Alphonse (Tournai 1802 - Paris 1870) and Dorsant Emile Joseph (Tournai 1805 - Paris 1859). At the 1844 Exhibition of Industrial Products in Paris, the house is mentioned favorably by the jury: MM. RAINGO brothers, in Paris, rue Saintonge, 11. Before talking about their products, let us say a word about these manufacturers: it is a family of industrialists composed of four brothers whose intelligence is constantly acquired to the prosperity of their establishment , in Paris and abroad. The commercial part dominates, and the figure of their exportation is considerable. In the great quantity of objects exhibited, we have noticed a Louis XIV pendulum, the Neptune chariot, accompanied by two candelabra and two very rich vases; a pendulum, Renaissance form, decorated with painted porcelain, and potiches furnished with bronzes; two groups, hunting subjects; a pendulum, Poetry and Eloquence, with candelabra for children, are proof of the zeal and activity that reign in this factory. In consideration of the importance of this house and the services rendered to the commerce, the jury awards to MM. Raingo brothers the bronze medal. (Report of the Central Jury, Exhibition of products of French industry in 1844) The Raingo brothers are quickly noticed by their bronzes. In fact, the Raingo brothers, first known as watchmakers, added bronzes of art and furniture to their catalog. From 1860, Maison Raingo created remarkable pieces for the Emperor and Empress Eugenie, a collection that can be admired today in the Louvre. The Raingo brothers perform productions after the Antique and later produce small models of works by contemporary artists such as Pradier, Carrier-Belleuse or Auguste Moreau. They also work in collaboration with the famous cabinet maker François Linke. The house is presented at the 1862 Universal Exhibition in London. At the Universal Exhibitions in Paris in 1867, 1878 and 1889, she won prizes each time, including the gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1889. The workshop was then located at 202 rue Veille du Temple in Paris. The works of the Raingo brothers can be found in various museums including the Museum of Arts and Crafts in Paris, the Royal Museums of Art and History of Brussels, the Museo Poldi Pezzoli in Milan and the Palacio Real de Madrid.
