"Marble Bust Signed H. Icard"
Important sculpture in white Carrara marble probably representing a 19th century bourgeois lady, signed H ICARD on the base. With great mastery of execution in the character and finesse of the details, this work conveys with dignity the elegance and respectability of its model. Honoré Icard is a sculptor from Tourtouse (Ariège) born in 1843. After his beginnings as a cabinetmaker and sculptor, it was in Clermont-Ferrand that he won his first prize for sculpture at the Salon of 1869. Prisoner during the war of 1870 , upon his release it was at the Decorative Arts of Paris that he continued his training, installed in Saint-Germain en Laye and exhibiting at the Salon from 1875 to 1913, he also worked at the Sèvres factory from 1892 to 1908.
