Original drawing depicting a nude woman lying down, signed lower left A. BARELIER 1997. Very well framed. Size apparent subject 29 * 20 cm and with frame 49 * 40 cm. Biography of André Barelier Born in the south of France (Plan-de-Cuques) in 1934, the sculptor and designer André Barelier will study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille (over the period 1948-1958) while working at a sculptor, and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris (period 1953-1961). In 1961, he received the special prize at the monumental art competition and was awarded the first Grand Prix of Rome. Between 1962 and 1965, André Barelier stayed at the Villa Medici where his meeting with Balthus played a decisive role in the development of his drawings and sculptures. He also discovers Giacometti who will influence him in his search for connecting the subject with the space around him. His first solo exhibition will be held in Paris in 1967 (Galerie Visconti). In 1968, André Barelier was appointed professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Many exhibitions will be devoted to his work, in France and abroad. In 1981, a Balthus-Barelier-Rouan exhibition was held in Ratilly. The work of André Barelier shows a classic craft and a great mastery of the material, especially in bronze works where alternating worked surfaces and flat surfaces.
