"Grand Table XIX: The Usurers"
Large painting in a beautiful wooden frame and gilded stucco depicting the Usuriers after an original Quentin Metsys dating from 1520 kept in Rome at the Galleria Doria Pamphili. This painting was probably painted in the first half of the nineteenth century and bears witness to the fascination with the naturalistic details, the realism of the faces and the caricatural expressions of Metsys' art. The theme of usurers was a great success. This painting is in the context of the rediscovery of the art of the end of the Middle Ages that will feed the inspiration of many artists. We can appreciate the finesse of the execution of faces or elements of still life like the books in the background. Very good condition, some old restorations. Dimensions without frame: 92 cm x 78.5 cm
