Sitting in a high chair, the young child stares at his mother while eating, a look she gives him with tenderness. Square, this painting is painted in tondo, which reinforces the intimate character of the scene, almost as seen through the hole of a lock. Oil on canvas signed lower right "J.CORABOEUF" and dated 1909. Jean Coraboeuf was born November 6, 1870 in Pouillé-les-Marais (Loire Atlantique) a modest family. Having become a notary clerk, his passion for drawing took him to Paris, where he returned to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in 1891 and became a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme. Winner of the Grand Prix of Rome in 1898, this refined line artist joined the Villa Medicis in Rome. This prestigious award crowning a brilliant academic career, opens the doors of a career as a worldly portraitist. He drew the portrait of many political personalities (Aristide Briant), artistic, intellectual (Edmond Rostand), ... In 1910, he obtained a medal at the Salon of French artists where he will be a member and also at the Salon des Independants.
