Superb interpretation of this work famous by our artist who realizes here, in 1941, a very beautiful gouache in an obvious style to be closer to the group of Nabis, our gouache is truly a work that is not without making us think strongly of Maurice Denis, or perhaps Puvis de Chavannes. Detached or not from Christianity, the Nabis seek spiritual paths in contact with philosophies and doctrines tinged with Orient, Orphism and esotericism. In an article in the journal "Art and Criticism" Denis defines what he calls "neo-traditionism", in his famous phrase as the profession of faith of the Nabi aesthetic, often interpreted as an intuition of what will be Abstraction: "Remember that a painting, before being a workhorse, a naked woman or any anecdote, is essentially a flat surface covered with colors in a certain order assembled. Beyond the work of Denis, this phrase will remain as one of the first definitions of modern art releasing the painting of mimetic representation, the iconographic aspect. Our gouache is of a very decorative art in the style of a fresco; Ursule Duch's gouaches, representing for the most part bouquets or throws of flowers, are trading a few hundred euros (see artprice sales results). The one that we propose to you today is much more of a major work of the artist; the original work of Sandro Botticelli from which he was inspired seems to have transcended the artist in a surpassing of himself.

On the back a dedication mentions: reproduction given to Mrs. Latappy by Mrs. Bouladoux (U. Duch) on February 10, 1941. BOULADOUX-DUCH Ursule (Mrs. Bouladoux was his wife).
