"Meditation Stool"
In fact, this type of practically square stool was used for scholars as meditation seats, even if for us they look like a coffee table. It is a piece of furniture perfectly executed according to the standards of the Chinese cabinetmaking as the craftsmen of the Ming period had fixed them: feet in slight oblique for the stability, apron of belt, tensors to stiffen all, and triple interlocking to tie the different elements together. As it is, it is a perfect success of balance and measurement.
