Large oil on canvas depicting the return of Napoleon to the island of Lobau after the battle of Essling. The battle of Essling pits the French empire against Austria. On May 21, 1809, the generals of Napoleon: Masséna, Lannes and Bessières stand up to 90,000 Austrians with only 66,000 men. After a hard battle, the wounded are brought to the island of Lobau.
