Serge Labégorre Serge Labégorre was born in Talence (Gironde) in 1932. From a long illness which forced him to stand still, Labégorre knew how to make a force: painting was his mode of expression and he devoted to it all his life. The meeting, at the college of Libourne, with the drawing professor of "genius", Henri Charnay, will be a second opportunity in his life as an artist. “He who has good writing draws well” (Japanese proverb). From the works of Serge Labégorre, the power of the drawing immediately attracts attention. His faces captivate us: the line is sure, unambiguous, the look is lively, penetrating, determined, and the black background that surrounds it, far from engulfing it, raises its determination even more. The body follows naturally, with an audacity of colors and matter, surrounded by light. It’s a hymn to life, a victory for life, despite its vicissitudes. There is no despair in Labégorre’s work, only the strength to conquer and to restore to mankind all its nobility.
