Fireplace trim in chased and gilded bronze and sea green marble composed of a pendulum decorated with the Char de l'Amour and a pair of five-light candelabra representing Amours, L'Amour messager guides his chariot drawn by two horses prancing, the white enameled annular dial with Roman numerals inscribed in the wheel. horses have eyes of sulphide Rectangular base resting on four feet in gilded bronze. XIXth century, Empire style in the style of Claude Galle Pendulum H: 38 - L: 45 - D: 14 cm Candelabra H: cm A similar pendulum is described in, 1817 in the collections of Marshal Davout, prince of Eckmülh: "A pendulum in gilt bronze with chariot dragged by two horses driven by a love, all on base in sea green marble decorated with a frieze of bay leaves with rosette in the middle ... »This type of pendulum where Cupid drives a chariot with two horses, knew indeed an important success and was declined in various variants, in particular with a chariot in the form of shell decorated with a dragon and with the Love sometimes holding a torch, a palm or a whip.
