Following 3 watercolor engravings on copper Vedute I, II and III dei contorni di Frascati nella campagna di Roma After Gabriel Perelle
21 cm x 15.5 cm
Giuseppe DALL'ACQUA born in 1760 in Vicenza , younger son of engraver Cristoforo Dall'Aqua, his father was his first teacher. He freed himself from the paternal style in the chalcography school of Remondini. Remondini's catalogs list a large number of his engravings, which suggests that he continued to collaborate beyond the learning phase, like many Bassan engravers. His plates represent mythological scenes, genre images, views, pastoral landscapes or illustrate situations from novels.
The drawings are derived from paintings by artists mainly from the 18th century: A. Kauffmann, T. Lawranson, CR Ryley, CG Playter, JH Benwell, GB Cipriani, J. Pillement, J. Vernet, J. Hackaert, PH Brinckmann, D Teniers, JL Aberli.
Our 3 engravings from the very end of the 18th century are part of a series of 4, here we present numbers 1, 2 and 3. They represent views of the surroundings of Frascati in the Roman countryside. Of great delicacy and very detailed, the engravings have been watercolored.
These views are engraved after etchings by engraver and draftsman Gabriel Perelle (1603-1677), installed in Paris as early as 1635 as engraver, he traveled to Italy to perfect his training and brought back many etchings representing landscapes and ancient monuments, Perelle is very freely inspired by observed landscapes and freely adds imaginary ruins and other objects.
