"Glass Spun From Nevers Paperolles Reliquary"
Exceptional paperwork, relic of Saint Sebastian accompanied by The Holy Family in spun glass called "de Nevers". The rolled paper work is remarkable for its profusion and elegance. A frame arched in the upper part of paperoles in the foreground gives depth. In the background is an altar spangled with mica where sideways relics of Saints are placed, the identity of which I cannot decipher. This altar decorated in the upper part with two candles also made of rolled papers supports the Holy Family. These three characters representing Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus respectively are in enamelled glass "from Nevers" and dressed in Antiquity (fashion very appreciated under Louis XVI). Accidents are visible on each character which remains very acceptable, given the fragility and rarity. Above them, a heart of paperolles protects a relic of Saint Sebastian. The whole is done on a blue paper background. The whole is framed in a cardboard, glass box. The golden frame has several shards (see photos) and could have been changed at the beginning of the 19th century. The bubble glass in places is more characteristic of the 18th century. Old paper on the back and iron hanging ring. Note: a very sincere piece. A small miracle that these glass figures have reached us! Some are sold as is and by the piece between 500 € and 1000 €. Dimensions at sight: 28 cm X 18.5 cm. To discover other subjects in enamelled glass: The magazine of Proantic: spun glass of Nevers but also Museum of earthenware and Fine Arts of Nevers.
