Ancient Painting From 1600

Flemish monogrammed school, Atelier by Gerrit Van Hontnorst. Beautiful painting of high pictorial quality, the canvas is monogrammed and could come from the workshop of Gerard Van Honthorst. The complexion and drapery are very natural and the hands are well represented. The pictorial style is located between the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century. Gerrit (or Gerard) van Honthorst, also known as Gherardo delle Notti (Utrecht, November 4, 1592 - Utrecht, April 27, 1656), was a Dutch painter. At the beginning of his career, he went to Rome, where he discovered the works of the Italian masters and of which he was influenced, in particular by Caravaggio. It was from this last that he was inspired by the characteristic lighting used in part of his paintings. Back in the Netherlands, he became one of the main painters of his time, painting paintings and portraits. He died, also in Utrecht where he was also born, at the age of 65.
