"Dan Mask"
This mask comes from the Dan culture of Ivory Coast. Also known as the Yacouba, the Dan live in the west of the Ivory Coast and in the east of Liberia, in a wooded region. This culture is organized around secret societies which govern the daily life of the villages. This Dan mask has half-closed eyes, unlike racing masks which have round eyes. The expressiveness of this mask is shared between the half-closed eyes and the teeth which give a dark, strange side to the mask, and the delicate nose and the two elegant braids which feminize the whole and bring a little more softness.
