Object description :

"Ewer And Its Basin, Chiseled Copper, Ottoman Empire, End Of XIXth Century, Superb Condition"
Very beautiful model of ewer called "Ibriq" placed on its basin provided with its soap holder, originating in Turkey, Ottoman Empire of the end of the XIXth century and in superb condition.
Our model in red copper has a swollen belly decorated with gadroons, a brass handle, the basin, largely decorated with foliage, is tinned inside and has its grid and its soap holder which receives the underside of the ibriq.
Ibrīq, or also Ibrik (إبريق) in Arabic, often means a jug with a handle. During Islamic ritual ablutions before prayer, the water taken from the ibrīq is poured over the hands and received in a basin.
Simple water jugs were often made of clay, while water jugs in oriental courts for prayer were often very elegantly decorated copper jugs.
