"Large 19th Century Cut Crystal Ball: Glassmaker Apprentice Exercise"
A remarkable object, a sumptuous crystal or glass ball, large in size, on a stepped square foot, round cut base with flat ribs. The ball is cut in a spiral, forming a curious contrast with the base. It is a school work, nothing is perfectly finished, the blowing is wavy and studded with bubbles, the hot weld between the base and the ball is finely bubbled, the attack of the cutting tool on spiral is also imperfect.
But the whole is spectacular, very clear, with a rock crystal appearance and an imposing architecture.
Period late nineteenth or 1900, all handmade.
