"Oil On Canvas By Henry Schick 1928"
Henry SCHICK 1928 "Fillettes de Plougastel". Oil on canvas, signed lower right and dated 28 in Roman numerals H: 61 cm x W: 38.5 cm (Canvas) H: 80 cm x W: 57 cm frame (12M) I am pleased to present this magnificent canvas by Henri Schick (1870-1946) (Belgian painter and illustrator). He is an extremely rare artist on the market for oil paintings. The canvas is painted on a 12M chassis, it is very graphic, the patterns are "partitioned", we can clearly recognize the influence of the Nabis and the Pont-Aven school. The palette is surprising with only 4 colors: The jade green of the apron, the orange of the caps, the slate blue of the clothes and a beautiful palette of ochres which dominate the rest of the composition. The theme is charming with these two young girls in clogs wearing their caps. They walk next to each other back from the market opposite the Saint-Pierre church in Plougastel. They both hold huge balls of rye bread and a wicker basket under their arms. This table comes from a very beautiful private collection of painting from the Breton school. It is signed H. Schick and dated lower right in Roman numeral 28…. For the anecdote 1928 is the year of the suicide (or murder?) Of Charles Filiger in Plougastel-Daoulas, he is found bloodless in a street, his wrists slashed ... The canvas is in good condition, the Montparnasse frame rare in this dimension is superb with a very beautiful patina. In short… A magnificent canvas with all the codes, the precepts of the Pont-Aven school and the Nabis group.
