"Primitive Straw Inlaid Mirror, Monoxyle, Late Seventeenth"
Amazing mirror, flat frame cut from a single piece of resinous wood, of elongated Italian shape, decorated inlaid of colored straws scattered on the black background of the frame, straw borders, finer and geometric central border. At the head, 2 suspension holes. Inside, an old mirror (resized), silver with mercury. Astonishing object, Period late 17th or around 1700, an uncommon model, Northern Italy or Provence.
From the collections of a beautiful old house in Arles.
Fairly good condition, restoration in length, there remains about 70% of the original marquetry ...., because the object has obviously been used. Dimensions: 31 x 26.5cm, mirror: 13.5cm x 10cm approximately.
