Vermeil, plate, pearls, enamels, pietra dura...
This exceptional work comes from a Russian or Austro-Hungarian workshop. It represents a sled in the snow driven by a Cupid.
The plinth dressed in a vermeil border is adorned with enamel beads and crystals. The sled is entirely covered with a rich work of enamels, rows of small baroque pearls as well as cabochons of hard stones.
The horses held by a complex system of harnesses are made of silver and dressed in an enamel caparison. The work is very rich in detail and materials, making this object a great masterpiece of civil goldsmithery (50 x 26 cm).
The photos do not quite reflect on the one hand the heat of the colors of the enamel, the caparisons of the horses for example are of a deep blue close to the blue of the oven of Sèvres, and and on the other hand of the quality of details. Inscribed on the base 925/000.
