The crowned punch crowned R is older and rarer than the crowned C.
In an article published in 1999, in L'Estampille-L'Objet d'Art n° 302, it would be a punch affixed by the master-guards of the corporation on bronze objects in certain French districts to control the quality of the alloy used and the manufacturing.
The receptacle is in brass with guilloche edge hemmed on iron, the feet are in bronze, the rivets are in copper.
Good condition.
To note that the wooden handle is later (replaced in the 19th century).
