EXCEPTIONAL CHEST OF DRAWER LOUIS XV ATTRIBUTED TO FRANCOIS LINKE * It is domed and flared on the sides. It opens on the front with 2 drawers without crosses, framed by 2 side doors in violet wood veneer. Important ornamentation of gilded bronzes decorated with busts of winged women, leafy and flowered garlands and bouquets of flowers. Shell feet. Top made of thick white veined gray and purple marble. This magnificent chest of drawers combines the know-how of traditional cabinetmaking with the robust construction of late 19th century furniture. In the Louis XV style in its design, the bronzes nevertheless testify to that little "Art Nouveau" desired by François Linke in his desire to associate the rock style with the new style of his time. The absence of a signature is linked to the desire of the merchants, for whom he worked at the start of its production (1880), to prohibit him from any brand that would have enabled the merchants' customers to place direct orders with Linke. This piece of furniture is remarkable in its aesthetics and by its manufacturing quality. Linke progressed quickly in this way and manufactured pieces of furniture which one can resemble real sculptures, he thus obtained a gold medal with the universal exposure of 1900 in Paris, which propelled it to become the supplier of the crowned heads and of the world's great fortunes. His factory included a hundred companions and his showroom was established on Place Vendôme. Its rapprochement of the Louis XV rock style with Art Nouveau affirmed its own style with a manufacturing remained traditional but carried out with the new tools at its disposal. Great art.
