A vigorous and bright touch for this oil on panel by Aix artist Edouard Ducros (1856-1936). it represents a seaside, certainly around Martigues where the artist had his habits. The work which is signed and dated 1930 in the lower right, measures 68 cm by 84 cm in its frame and 49 cm by 65 without the frame. A pupil of Louis Gautier and Gagliardini, he exhibited at the Salon ds Artistes français from 1911 to 1935. In the provinces, he was awarded in Versailles, Lyon and Aix en Provence. He is also the founder of the Society of Friends of the Arts in his hometown, frequented in particular by Cézanne in the company of which he painted the Montagne Sainte Victoire. He is best known as the landscaper of the Etang de Berre. The Granet Museum has "a view of Martigues" and the Digne Museum "the ploughmen around Aix en Provence".
