Superb early 20th century bronze by Numa PATLAGEAN (1888-1961) Russian artist born in Kishinev in Russia and died in Antibes in France. Also called Nuhem Ber Patlazhan, from a family of emigrant artists made up of 3 brothers. Active in Paris at the beginning of the XXth century, Numa was in contact with Rodin, Bourdelle Maillol and Despiau, was president of the aesthetics section of the society for the study of forms, made exhibitions in the United States and present in several museums ..... he mainly worked on morphology and human faces. This sculpture made with lost wax represents an elongated, squatting client, drawn up on himself, the character of this work is hidden under a drape leaving only his hands and feet visible. The set is made of a single bronze plate, full of movement and details. the patina is superb and, signed located and dated lower right Marakech 1938 and Valsuani foundry stamp. Superb quality work.
