Object description :

"François Simon (1818-1896) '' Goats From The Rove ''"
Beautiful typical work of the Marseille painter `` Les chèvres du Rove '' is an oil on wood signed lower left François Simon. (Marseille 1818-1896) is an animal painter and pupil of Emile Loubon, present in the collections of the Musée des Beaux Arts de Marseille. He exhibited his first painting at the Salon Lyonnais in 1851, then started at the Paris Salon in 1853, and participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1855. He studied in particular the work of Claude Lorrain, himself performing many sunsets. The animals he represents are small portraits painted with real tenderness. His stable interiors, through the diffusion of cleverly studied lighting, remain his best paintings. Museums: Marseille, Pontoise, Saint-Etienne, Strasbourg.
