Rare large pendulum (61 cm) in finely chiseled gilt bronze with decoration on top of the crouching Venus *, model after the sculpture by Coysevox (Louvre Museum), dial with Roman numerals and circumference in laurel wreath surrounded by palmettes and foliage, sides also adorned with crowns, movement signed Devaulx ** in Paris, from the XIXth century Restoration period. This clock is in very good condition and is of exceptional quality. It is very decorative due to its imposing size. The movement is signed Devaulx Paris (Rue du Palais Royal or Galerie de Valois 1830-1850, Extract Dictionnaire des Horlogers français Tardy). It works, we have the key, the pendulum and the rear window. After Antoine Coysevox (Lyon, 1640 - Paris, 1720). Venus, the Roman goddess of love, squatting, protects her naked body from view. She sits on the back of a turtle, one of her usual attributes. Coysevox enlarges an ancient model known by many copies. (see Louvre museum). A similar clock in patinated bronze and green marble is listed in the National Furniture Collections (from Château de Candé in Maine and Loire).
