Object description :

"Tâs, Chiseled Copper Basin, Iran, Fars Province, XV / XVIth Century"
"Tâs" Basin, chiseled copper on a black bituminous background, domed base, convex wall and curved opening, with incised decorations and traces of encrustations.
This "Tâs", originally from Iran and the province of Fars, dates from the 15th or 16th century. Our model presents a decoration of a sinuous ribbon going around the "Tâs" presenting in its regular interlacing hearts by using in the angles a drawing of tents or an architecture of houses specific to these regions
. An old wolf's tooth restoration is visible below, see photo.
The carving present in the last row, almost below, has nothing to do with the beauty of the rest of the set and suggests a later work of the medahils. These receptacles strongly decorated with marvelous engravings, made the joy and the pride, of the collections of the princes of this time and the happiness of the collectors of Islamic art, of today.
Traces of wear, but breathtaking beauty.
