"Marly Horse In Bronze After G. Coustou"
Marly horse in bronze with original medal patina, 19th century cast iron. The Marly Horses are two sculpted groups representing prancing horses and their grooms in Carrara marble. They were commissioned in 1739 by Louis XV from the sculptor Guillaume COUSTOU (1677-1746) to decorate the entrance to the park of the Château de Marly. The models were chosen by the king in 1743 and installed in Marly in 1745. In 1794 they were transferred to Place de la Concorde and then replaced in 1984 by copies in reconstituted marble made by Michel Bourbon.
