Paul Cirou was a pupil at the Académie Julian and exhibited at major Parisian salons from 1904, then at the Salon d'Automne in Algeria, of which he is one of the creators.
From his travels in North Africa, notably in Algeria, he brings back orientalist scenes which owe nothing to the picturesque nature of the subjects.
The family scene at "Ténes" in Algeria that we present is modern manner with a concern for simplification and an interesting stylization in an original and harmonious composition.
