Bust portrait of a woman holding an eyeglass posing in front of a wooded landscape partially hidden by a red curtain, signed MILLET, 1837. Beautiful oval miniature painted on ivory, in its exceptional frame in gilded bronze. Frédéric MILLET (Charlieu, 1786-Paris, 1859), pupil of Jean-Baptiste ISABEY, he is considered one of the best miniaturists of his generation, Millet exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1806 to 1859 where he was several times medalist. His self-portrait is at the Louvre. He notably painted the portraits of: Empress Joséphine Famille d'Orléans Duc de Montmorency Princess Esterhazy Duchesse Hautpoul Maréchale de Reggio Lady Stuart Bassano and Montebello families Portrait of Melle Bourgoin (given by her son to the Comédie Française) Marie-Amélie de Bourbon- Siciles ETC ....... Several of his works are exhibited in different museums. Conservation: Miniature in oval with a slight slit in the forearm, in the fold of the dress (see photo), on 1.5 cm (very little visible) 8.5 x 12 cm in its heavy gilded bronze frame with hanging with chains and ring, Louis Philippe period 20 x 23 cm
