Scrimshaw * on finely engraved ivory or sperm whale tooth, representing a three-masted sailboat sailing at sea, from the 19th century. This scrimshaw is in good condition and is of high quality. A note: some cracks on the edge of the tooth, slight scratches and wear of time, see photos. * Scrimshaw: this English term indicates the craft industry resulting from engravings carried out by the whalers on the products drawn from various marine mammals. They are carried out mainly on the bones and teeth of sperm whales or baleen of mysticetes, as well as on the tusks of walruses or narwhals.
