Originally from Lyon, Alain Lovato is particularly active in Rhône-Alpes where his monumental metal works adorn public spaces. He began exhibiting in various salons from 1962 (Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, Salon d'Automne) and in galleries and art centers across Europe and the United States.
Self-taught visual artist, Alain Lovato designs sculptures made up of folded, assembled and painted metal surfaces. To date, he has produced around fifty metallic sculptures, public and private.
In the years 1970-1990, the work of Alain Lovato participated in the emergence of large-scale artistic projects on the scale of Greater Lyon. Lyon art critics René Déroudille and André Mure have played an important role in working to integrate local contemporary art into public space. The sculpture symposia, organized between 1978 and 1982, also testify to this desire to exhibit art outside the museum by integrating it into urban planning and everyday life.
The work that we are proposing is preparatory to the monumental sculpture Signal Oblique produced by Alain Lovato at the time of the symposium of 1980. It is today preserved in the Parc de la Cerisaie in Lyon where it adjoins with the works of various contemporary artists such as Caesar.
