"Friedrich Gottlob Hoffmann's Living Room"
FRIEDRICH GOTTLOB HOFFMANN FAIR Friedrich Gottlob Hoffmann, born in 1741 on the Puschwitz mansion near Belgern, was active in Leipzig at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century and established himself in the carpentry sector: created innovative and distinguished works of art and thus had a great influence on the entire outdoor furniture industry. Hoffmann was not only a good spirit and craftsman, but also an entrepreneur. He was the first to publish two product catalogs with photos of his furniture in German-speaking countries, which could be easily ordered at home. An exhibition at the Grassi Museum of Applied Arts gives an overview of the work and functioning of the famous carpenter from Leipzig. Much of the exhibits are privately owned and have never been opened to the public. Discover and learn more about the life situation around 1800: there are around 80 pieces of furniture attributed to Hoffmann - women's secretaries, sinks and dressing tables with bedside tables and bidets, magnificent dressers, chairs and sofas, tables with special mechanisms and mysterious interior life cabinets.
