Born in 1874, date from the first Impressionist exhibition at Nadar, Pierre Eugène Montézin remained his whole career under the sign of Impressionism.
Very influenced by the theories of the decomposition of light, and subtle variations of the atmosphere, he practically always paints from nature. A great fisherman, he particularly likes riversides.
His landscapes are solidly constructed, the keys are broad with lines of assertive force, which structure the values treated as opposed to warm or cold tones.
The landscape we are presenting is entirely characteristic of the fullness of Pierre Eugène Montézin's talent. The great masses of the edge of the river in the foreground are balanced by the lights of the sky and its reflection in the water, in opposition to the dark areas and the trees, which we feel crossed by light and wind.
The touch is lively and the effects of changing light with a light morning mist are particularly well rendered. The cows are just suggested, without worrying about anecdote.
This very sensitive and personal manner gives this simple corner of countryside in the early morning, an atmosphere of serenity and very natural authenticity.
