This magnificent bargueno in walnut from the 18th century, without a seat, is spectacular for its upper part
. This forms a rectangular chest with a gilded facade with a rich architectural decoration of twisted columns framing four-lobed motifs. It opens with 12 horizontal drawers surrounding a central door which reveals 4 drawers.
Each drawer as well as the door, adorned with a polychrome and gold decoration flanked by twisted columns, offers us a real picture and plays with this warm light of the gilding according to our position and the luminosity.
The side carrying handles, the pull pendants, the edge angles are handled with great skill. Transportable thanks to two handles, it is placed on a rear independent base.
The name Barguéno, Moorish Spanish cabinet refers to Bargas, a village located near Toledo, which was an important center of marquetry in the 16th and 17th centuries. It is not only a portable chest, but also the symbol of any wealthy home. It is the expression of the Spanish colonial boom extending its empire in New World expeditions. These portable rooms made it possible to transport all effects, whether administrative, diplomatic, liturgical or personal.
