Beautiful and large self-portrait of the Toulon painter and feline José Mange who pictured himself writing in its interior.
A pupil of Jean Paul Laurens, Benjamin Constant, Cormon and Arman-Jean in Paris, José Mange began his career by making copies of masterpieces at the Louvre.
He exhibited landscapes of the Toulon region and still lifes at the Salon des Indépendants from 1893 to 1897 then from 1928 to 1934.
He also participated in the Salons d'Automnes, Tuileries, Winter and French artists.
His painting borrows the technique of the Impressionists and Pointillists.
From 1908 to 1914, he moved to Toulon as an art photographer. In addition to being a painter, José Mange is a poet. He has been a member of the Félibrige and secretary of the Parisian Félibres since 1890.
Size: 116 x 89 cm without frame and 128 x 101 cm with its modern wooden frame.
