"In Earthenware Plate Jules Vieillard Bordeaux After Eugène Millet."
Earthenware plate from the Jules Vieillard factory in Bordeaux representing a bird. Model after Eugène Millet. On the back of the plate, the Jules Vieillard manufacture's stamp has been covered with a palette of painter's gold color. The stamp is visible by transparency under this palette. Eugène Millet (1819 - 1879) is a decorator architect who was a pupil of Viollet-le-Duc. He created for the Manufacture Veillard an earthenware service called "les Grands Oiseaux" in a Japanese style influenced by Bracquemond and inspired by Hokusaï prints.
