"Christ - Michael Coxie (malines 1499-1592) Oil On Canvas"
Michael Coxie (Mechelen 1499-1592) "Face of Christ who carries the Cross" Flemish School of Flanders Excellent state of conservation measures. 20 x 25 Renaissance period, second half of the 16th century This little gem painted in oil on the oval copper plate is a Flemish work of extraordinary level. Its excellent conditions allow us to capture all its exceptional details and the author's exquisite pictorial technique. Copper paintings of this level can rarely be seen. The representation of the suffering face of Christ carrying the Cross is one of the favorite themes of the great Flemish Masters who often depict a protagonist completely bloodied and disfigured by pain. In this case, the face of Christ, despite the signs of outrage suffered, is presented with a gentle and serene expression, but tired and resigned. We find this expression precisely in similar works by the Flemish painter from Mechelen Michael Coxie, an excellent interpreter from the school of Flanders.
