F BIROTHEAU is a painter born in 1819 in Napoléon-Vendée and died in Rennes in 1892; after his studies in La Roche-sur-Yon, the municipality and the General Council of Vendée awarded him a grant to perfect his gifts of artists in Paris.
A student of Drolling, he later met Paul Baudry there. In 1842, he exhibited for the first time at the Salon of French Artists - He executed with subtlety thus a large number of portraits of notable (Count Charles de Polignac and his wife ..) and stood out also for these history paintings with, among other things, his “Full-length portrait of Napoleon 1st” -
