Object description :

"XVIIIth Painting : "the Geographer With Lorgnons ""
Although stylistically close to the 16th century paintings, ours was produced in the second half of the 18th century.
A German artist, genius pasticheur had made a specialty of these tables "in the manner of" which he carried out to order for his customers.
It is Christain Wilhem Ernst DIETRICH, also known as Dietricy (1712-1774 ) to which I think we can attribute this canvas mounted on panel 23 X 18 cm, dressed in a superb frame of the same era with inverted slope in walnut veneer and blackened wood on frame of larch 33 X 29 cm. shows us an old man, bearded and dressed in the manner of the end of the Renaissance, looking at a world map through eyeglasses with the help of a book. Small wear of the canvas which also reveals the panel on the sides, but in good condition,
