Small LOUIS XVI chest of drawers in the shape of a half moon in veneer, tobacco wood background and violet wood frame on an oak frame decorated with marquetry with musical instruments, with attributes of writing, fruits and vases of flowers. It opens with 2 drawers without crosspiece and rests on feet. White Carrara marble top. Stamped SHILER. Louis XVI period, 18th century. SCHILER Jean-Martin Jean-Martin Schiler dit Schüler (1753 - May 22, 1812) - cabinetmaker - Master on June 27, 1781. Native of the surroundings of Leipzig. Born near Leipzig, Schiler began his career as a free craftsman and settled in rue Saint Nicolas. He gained his master's degree in 1781 and around 1788 moved to rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine. His Transition style furniture, often marked with landscapes, is of good quality. But the majority of his works, chests of drawers, secretaries, trictrac tables ... are Louis XVI style, in mahogany, with very refined and well balanced lines.
