Etienne MOTELAY (Attributed to) end of the 18th century - beginning of the 19th century Paris Oval miniature on ivory Portrait of a child draped in Antiquity. Paris miniaturist, end of the 18th century - beginning of the 19th century, exhibited at the Salon of 1795 In addition to the biographical information provided by Schidlof, Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard was able to discover the following: "… The citizen Motelay lived in 1795 in Paris, 25, place Dauphine and, the same year, exhibited at the Paris Salon a few miniature portraits. It is perhaps the same Etienne Motelay who is mentioned as a painter aged 25 years… native of Caen, protected by Mr. Houdon… "in the register of pupils of the Ecole de l'Academie de Paris dated March 27, 1784. Referenced in Bénézit ed Grund 1999 as being an 18th century miniaturist who exhibited at the PARIS Salon in 1795: A pouting woman and a frame of miniatures .
