This beautiful Louis XVI rectangular mercury mirror in carved and gilded wood frame was made in the second middle of 18th Century in Venetian area of Italy area. The richly carved frame is characterized by a shape called "cassetta".
The carvings are particularly elaborate and rich. The perimeter parts are characterized by leaves pattern carvings, inside they show off a high relief carvings with some fruits and leaves patterns. The central part have a fine carving with vine and grape bunches; however, the inner part shows a geometric pattern.
Thanks to the perfectly symmetrical carvings the frame can be hung both vertically and horizontally.
