Very elegant portrait of young woman reading. This canvas is a work of Arthur Beckwith, born in London in 1860, having mainly lived and worked in the United States. He died in 1930. This dated is signed, and dated 1878. The artist was 18 when he painted this canvas. The work of the clothing part is very fine and of very high quality. The young woman is seated on an armchair and holds a letter in her hand, on which is written "remember". The background is decorated with tapestry. In 1906 Arthur Beckwith lost most of his works to a fire, which discouraged him from painting for several years. This oil on canvas is in good condition, with old small restorations (see photo on the back). Some wear also to be noted on the frame.
