"Cavalry Shock, 17th, 99 X 152 Cm, Battle Between Ottoman And Christian Army"
Large painting, battle scene between the Christian and Turkish cavalry, against the backdrop of the landscape at the fortified castle. 17th century. This painting, without visible signature, can be compared to the productions of Jacques Courtois, painter from Franche-Conté, who lived and painted in Italy, most of his existence. Very beautifully made, particularly in the treatment of light, movements of riders and horses. Some on the ground in the foreground intensify the dramatic character of the composition. This painting was formerly restored and re-lined. It still shows many traces of folds and some bad repainting, has too intense a varnish which affects its good readability. It would therefore be necessary to consider a new restoration.
