Terracotta with polychrome painting Probably Italy, late 19th century Based on the Renaissance bust attributed to Donatello (1386-1466), dated 1430, today in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence. "Niccolò da Uzzano" (1359-1431) - Politician of the former Florentine Republic in a red robe on a rectangular base with curved front; his head turned towards the left shoulder Height: approx. 44 x 38 x 20 cm Good condition Elaborate naturalistic bust with impressive individual facial features Niccolò da Uzzano (1359-1431) led the party of the Albizzi, which opposed the Medici in Florence . He was so popular that he was depicted in various frescoes, including the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine. He was also represented in the Palazzo Medici-Riccardi, in the Church of Sant'Egidio and on medals. The bust was probably commissioned from Donatello after Uzzano's death by his property manager. Donatello executed the bust in an antique style, according to the prevailing taste of his time. The bust is in good condition, showing some minor chips. Height 44 x 21 x 38 cm
