Biography
Jean-Baptiste Gibert is a student at the School of Fine Arts in Paris in the studio of Guillaume Guillon-Lethière. He won a first sketch medal in 1825, a second Grand Prix de Rome in painting the same year, and a second medal for trees in 1827 and 1828. He was awarded the first Grand Prix de Rome for historic landscape in 1829. He exhibited at the Salon of French artists from 1831 to 1872.
He married Mariuccia, whose real name is Mariana Cenci, sought-after model, having successively an idyll with the painters Navez, then Schnetz, posing nude for Ingres himself, and also for Antoine Wiertz.

La Chasse du sanglier de Calydon, 1825, second Grand Prix de Rome.
- Paris, National School of Fine Arts:
The Death of Adonis, 1829, first grand prix of Rome for historical landscape.
- Versailles, Museum of the History of France:
Honoré Gabriel Riquetti, 1846, after Joseph Boze, commissioned by King Louis-Philippe.
