Painter of landscapes, flowers, painter with gouache, pastellist, Post-impressionist.
Victor CHARRETON studied law and was admitted to the Lyon Court of Appeal. He has been painting amateur since childhood and studies at Hareux and Japy in Lyon. But in 1902, Victor CHARRETON gave up his legal career to devote himself completely to painting, and moved to Paris, while joining the summer, his house near Clermont-Ferrand. He also travels a lot: Corsica, Algeria, Spain, England, Belgium, Holland, Germany. Victor CHARRETON led a life of esthete and man of culture, lover of poetry and music. He was a landscape painter of the Lyon tradition, with the taste of sensual pigmentary impasto, seeking momentary effects, instantaneous, which had seized the impressionists - Besides his native Dauphiné and the Auvergne adoption, Victor CHARRETON was also sensitive to charms Ile-de-France, Paris (Montmartre, Jardin du Luxembourg, Parc Montsouris), Provence, Creuse, Brittany. he sought out intimate aspects with the blaze of autumn landscapes, and especially the effects of snow - the snow that makes everything equal - an ideal starting point for magnifying nature. After having painted twilights, backlights in half-tones, fogged sunsets, Victor CHARRETON gave more and more importance to light and color. It was exactly at the turn of the century of the end of Impressionism and the century of upheavals started by Fauvism.Victor CHARRETON exhibited at the salons of Paris and Lyon, in several provincial cities and abroad: New York, Geneva, Barcelona and won numerous awards.Victor CHARRETON was founder of Salon d'Automne and Secretary General. He was knighted the Legion of Honor.
